Please pack minimally. Space inside the tent will be limited. All items except your pillow, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag must fit inside the plastic bucket and not overflow.

Clothing

  • 1 pioneer outfit. (men: trousers, long-sleeved shirts; women: skirts, blouses) — see Trek Clothing Guide (PDF)
  • 2nd set of pioneer clothes
  • Pajamas
  • Set of regular street clothes to keep clean for the drive home
  • 4 pairs hiking/athletic socks (synthetic/polyester/wool blend ideal; avoid cotton)
  • 4 pairs underwear
  • 4 undershirts (synthetic blends ideal)
  • 1 pair comfortable walking shoes
  • 1 pair water shoes. Crocs are great for these and can be worn around camp in the evenings.
  • 1 belt for men (non-leather ideally)
  • Work gloves for pushing the handcarts
  • Hat (sun-blocking)
  • Warm clothing (jacket, sweater, etc.)
  • Rain gear (we will trek rain or shine, hot or cold weather)

Personal Care

  • Sunscreen
  • Liquid shower soap, shampoo (small travel containers)
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Bath towel (fast-drying ideal)
  • Small washcloth to help clean off at the river
  • Baby powder for feet (small travel-sized container)
  • Any other personal hygiene products you need

Camping Gear

  • Sleeping pad
  • Sleeping bag (40-degree recommended, packed in stuff sack)
  • Small pillow for sleeping
  • Earplugs (optional)

Other Items

  • Water container - This could be a Nalgene or it could be a 1 gallon bottle of water from the grocery store. Just make sure that it doesn't leak and can be refilled.
  • Small backpack
  • Headlamp
  • Extra batteries for headlamp or external battery pack and cable if headlamp is USB-charging (optional)
  • Glasses, if needed (contacts strongly not recommended)
  • Sunglasses
  • Spending money for snack stops en route

The Stake will provide each Trekker with a 5-gallon bucket with screw-on lid. Pack all clothing items in this bucket.
