Equipment Inspection & Preparation

Inspect, test, and prep family gear before Trek.

Walk through every item below before departure day. Catching a torn tent or broken stove at home is much easier than fixing it at Martin's Cove.

Tents

  • Tent assembles correctly and is sturdy — no broken or missing parts
  • Tent fabric is not torn
  • All poles, stakes, and guylines are present and serviceable
  • No holes in the floor pan
  • All ancillary items (stakes, etc.) stored in a bag

Cooking Gear

  • How many dutch ovens?
  • Are the dutch ovens clean and properly seasoned, and free of rust that could taint food?
  • What utensils are present?
  • How many stoves?
  • How many fuel cylinders?
  • Do all burners on the stoves light properly?
  • Are all small accessories stored in a bag, crate, or bucket?

Miscellaneous

  • Are there any chairs?
  • What other gear is available?
